NOTE: DAWN RICHARD LEAVES BAD BOY WITH NEW MUSIC

  • on 2/15/2012
  • Okay, I gotta confession to make: I too have been guilty of referring to the talented Dawn Richard as the Americanized Dawn Richards, thinking that was her name the whole time. But oh was I wrong when I found out in an 106 & Park Interview that the up-and-coming solo artist not only didn't have an "s" at the end of her name, but it was French in it's pronunciation. So I quickly saw the error in my ways and dually-noted that if I want to get cool points with the beautiful and talented Dawn... It's Richard (pronounce Reh-Shard)... not Richards. My Bad!!!!

Now that I've got that out the way, it has been reported on Necole Bitchie that the up-and-coming singer/songwriter has left Bad Boy Records to continue on an independent solo career. Known for her stint as a member of both Danity Kane and Diddy-Dirty Money, Dawn has been building quite a fan base with her own sound since she released her first mixtape The Prelude to A Tell Tale Heart back in 2010. Even though many viewed the split as a business relationship gone sour between Dawn and Bad Boy Label head Sean "Diddy" Combs, She asserts that there is none and that she will still be working on new material with Diddy-Dirty Money.

“Puff has been really great with being supportive of me starting a solo career, and he’s agreed to let me go from Bad Boy. I’m really grateful to him. He didn’t have to do that. He could have been what they say that he would be, and he wasn’t at all. He gave me a business decision. It was a very amicable decision. Now, it’s just about the music, and I want to make him and them proud of believing in me enough to let me go try it.”

Gearing up to release her first EP entitled Armor On, the singer/songwriter/dancer has leaked a new track entitled "Change," where she sings about not taking her man for granted over a steady uptempo beat slightly akin to the sound she created with Diddy-Dirty Money on Last Train to Paris.
